Coach Liam Moore

Liam Moore

Head Coach & Owner

Liam’s passion for sport, exercise and fitness has led his path in life; from representing and captaining Gloucestershire County cricket team and playing semi-professional rugby, to a successful career teaching physical education and now working as a strength, conditioning and CrossFit coach. Liam has trained consistently for over 30 years, gaining a wealth of knowledge and experience, and understanding what does and does not work.

After seeking an alternative style of training to that offered by a traditional gym, Liam discovered CrossFit in 2008. He started completing CrossFit’s online ‘workout of the day’ (WOD) and loved the challenge, variety of workouts and most of all, the results.

As the CrossFit industry travelled over from the USA and opened gyms around the UK, Liam became a member and was instantly hooked on the exceptional quality of the training and coaching, and new friendships made with likeminded people. So much so, that in 2013 he left his career as a secondary school Head of Physical Education and opened CrossFit Sunbury. He hasn’t looked back since.

Beyond the gym, Liam also works as a Strength and Conditioning Coach at Hampton Boys School, where he is responsible for the athletic development of the senior rugby and rowing squads. Over the years, he has coached and mentored numerous athletes who have gone on to compete at international level.

A true labour of love, CrossFit Sunbury has become the hub of the community and boasts a fantastic member base from all backgrounds, ages and abilities. Seeing the members’ physical and mental health improve from training consistently over a matter of weeks and months is the biggest satisfaction for Liam;

“It is incredibly satisfying to see a new member grow in confidence, skill and ability over time. The science of what we do here at the gym means we are able to engineer steady, consistent progress, and I love helping members achieve their goals by paying specific focus on gains in strength and technique that ultimately translate to stunning improvements in their fitness that they’d have thought impossible at the start.”

At 53 years old, Liam is the strongest and fittest he has ever been, demonstrating how brilliant CrossFit’s programming really is. Liam trains 5-6 times a week, designing and testing the class workouts in readiness for his members.

Dave Budge

Coach

We’re incredibly fortunate to have someone with Dave’s depth of experience on the coaching team. With over 23 years of coaching under his belt, Dave has worked across the full spectrum of athletic development, from personal training to strength and conditioning for rugby players, MMA fighters, and BJJ athletes.

Dave’s sporting background began in rugby, where he played for London Irish (2001–2003) and in the National Leagues until injury ended his career in 2009. Never one to slow down, he transitioned into combat sports, competing in semi-professional and professional MMA until 2013. He’s also been training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for over a decade and proudly holds a black belt.

For the past seven years, Dave has focused on CrossFit and functional training, helping everyday athletes move, lift, and live better. Alongside his coaching, he’s been a full-time firefighter for 18 years, and a seriously competitive one at that, earning multiple British titles, a European title in firefighter fitness competitions, and a place in the CrossFit Age Group Semifinals.

Dave’s coaching style is energetic, technical, and straight-talking. He brings a wealth of knowledge, a contagious sense of humour, and zero tolerance for BS. Expect loud cues, plenty of banter, and a genuine passion for helping people push their limits. (He also claims to have a borderline spectrum disorder and severe Tourette’s, both 100% self-diagnosed, which might explain a few things!)

Two years ago, he decided to take his CrossFit Level 1 Trainer qualification, a decision he calls the best he’s ever made. Since then, he’s been dedicated to helping members reach their goals, improve their performance, and enhance their overall quality of life through movement, fitness, and mindset.
